12th Convocation of DA Degree College For Women


12th Convocation of Defence Authority College For Women (Phase-VIII)

The 12th Convocation of Defence Authority Degree College For Women was held at the College Auditorium recently. Vice Chancellor, Karachi University, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, presided over the convocation ceremony.

As many as 215 graduates of the session 2010 and 2011 were awarded B.A, B.Sc and B.Com degrees whereas 25 masters’ degrees were also conferred on the students. 6 students of MA (Economics) 2009 were also awarded degrees.

20 students of the college were awarded degrees in MA (Economic), 5 students in MA (English), 87 students were awarded B.Com degrees, 48 students received B.Sc degrees and 84 students were given BA degrees in the humanities and liberal arts.

Dr Muhammad Qaiser in his convocation address said that the backwardness and regression of the nation was because it lagged in quality education. He lamented that education never got its due priority in the perennial history of the country and as such the culture for learning, knowledge and awareness in the society could not be developed. He reiterated that promotion of education was the key to progress and prosperity of the country.

The Vice Chancellor said that the real purpose of education was to produce versatile, dynamic and enlightened graduates who could contribute for the well being of the nation. He appreciated the establishment DHA Suffa University and termed it as a landmark educational institutions of the country.

He said that it was imperative that women participated equally with men in all walks of life if the country was to develop and progress. He commended DHA Degree College For Women for maintaining its glorious traditions of academic excellence and for producing confident and dynamic women graduates who were the ambassadors of good will for the country.

Earlier, Principal Dr Farhat Agha in her annual report highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the College. She said that the College imparted wholesome education to young women to nurture their intellectual and physical talents so that they could excel in various fields of practical life.

  • Umme-Hani Joozer got gold medal for getting first class first position in MA (English) 2011.
  • Ujala Riaz and Anam Jamal for getting first and second position in MA (Economics) 2009.
  • Fatima Aslam and Sidra Rasool for getting top two positions in University in MA (Economics) 2010.
  • Farah Javed and Aisha J Ahmed for getting 1st and 2nd position in KU in MA (Economics) 2011.

Students who received gold and silver medals for getting top positions in University at undergraduate level included Mishal Maria first in BSc 2010 exam, Sehar Muneer second in B.Com 2011, Noor Zakir third in BA 2011 exam and Kanza Bushra Chaudry for first in B.Sc 2011 Exam.

The Vice Chancellor also awarded medals and cash awards to 27 brilliant students of the college who secured top three positions in various University and Board examinations. At the end Dir Education DHA, Cdre (R) Talib Hussain presented a memorial shield to the Vice Chancellor.
