The 13th Convocation of Defence Authority Degree College For Women was held at the College Auditorium. Vice Chancellor, Karachi University, Prof Dr Muhammad Qaiser, presided over the convocation ceremony.
As many as 194 graduates of the session 2012 and 2013 were awarded B.A, B.Sc and B.Com degrees whereas 19 masters’ degrees were also conferred on the students.
14 students of the college were awarded degrees in MA (Economic), 5 students in MA (English), 68 students were awarded B.Com degrees, 32 students received B.Sc degrees and 68 students were given BA degrees in the humanities and liberal arts.
Dr Muhammad Qaiser in his convocation address said that the backwardness and regression of the nation was because it lagged in quality education. He lamented that education never got its due priority in the perennial history of the country and as such the culture for learning, knowledge and awareness in the society could not be developed.
He commended DHA Degree College For Women for maintaining its glorious traditions of academic excellence and for producing confident and dynamic women graduates who were the ambassadors of good will for the country.
Earlier, Principal Dr Farhat Agha in her annual report highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the College. She said that the College imparted wholesome education to young women to nurture their intellectual and physical talents so that they could excel in various fields of practical life.
Ayesha Javed got gold medal for getting first class first position in MA (English) 2012, Sidra Naeem and Huma Rafiq for getting first and second position in MA (Economics) 2012, Amina Dilshad and Irum Irshad for getting top two positions in University in MA (Economics) 2013 and Barza Tariq got 1st position in M.A English 2013. Students who received gold and silver medals for getting top positions in University at undergraduate level included Rija Zahid first in Intermediate 2012 exam, Nida Zehra second in B.A 2013.
The Vice Chancellor also awarded medals and cash awards to brilliant students of the college who secured top three positions in various University and Board examinations. At the end Dir Education DHA, Cdre (R) Talib Hussain presented a memorial shield to the Vice Chancellor.
