The 14th Convocation of Defence Authority Degree College for Women was held at the College Auditorium here today. Vice Chancellor Karachi University, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, presided over the convocation ceremony and conferred degrees on the graduating students. As many as 120 graduates of the session 2014 and 2015 were awarded B.A, B.Sc and B.Com degrees whereas 18 masters’ degrees were also conferred on the students. 10 students of the college were awarded degrees in MA (Economics), 8 students in MA (English), 37 students were given B.Com degrees, 17 students BSc Degree and 48 students were given BA degrees.
The Vice Chancellor said that the strength of a nation is dependent on the educational and intellectual prowess of its people. He added that educated and enlightened women play a monumental role in bringing quality and improvement in all spheres of life. He commended DHA College for Women for traditionally maintaining high standards of academic excellence and producing confident, dynamic and capable women graduates who could contribute for the well being and betterment of society.
Dr. Muhammad Qaiser said that the increasing number of educated women coming forward and contributing actively in different spheres of nation building was encouraging and termed it a positive sign for development of a progressive society. He said that educated women constitute renewed hope and optimism for our bright future.
Earlier, Principal Dr Farhat Agha in her annual report highlighted the academic and co-curricular achievements of the College. She said that the College imparted wholesome education to young women in an intellectually vibrant learning environment to nurture their intellectual and physical talents so essential for excelling in various fields of practical life.
The Vice Chancellor awarded medal and cash awards to eight students of 2014-15 session who secured top positions in various University and Board Examination. Mehrun Nisa was awarded the gold medal for topping in BA examination of Karachi University 2015 session and Karishma Kumari for getting top position in F.Sc (Pre-Med) examination in Karachi Board of 2015 session. At the end, Director Education DHA, Brig (R) Sardar Muhammad presented a memorial shield to the Vice Chancellor.
