The 4th All Pakistan DHA Karachi Cup Open Golf Championship 2013 played at Defence Authority Country & Golf Club from 07 Feb – 10 Feb’ 2013 finished here on Sunday evening. More than 300 golfers from all over the country including top names of national professional golf circuit participated in Rs 1.5 million tournament. An impressive prize distribution ceremony was held at DHA Golf Club in which Maj Gen Agha Masood Akram was the chief guest.
The chief guest appreciated Defence Authority Country & Golf Club for promoting golfing activity in the country and for organizing a spectacular golf tournament in which a large number of golfers participated. He said that golfing was a lively activity that reflected healthy and positive trends in society. He said that promotion of mega tournaments like this would help in promotion of golf in the country.
Muhammad Munir made back to back birdies on the final two holes as he came from behind to capture the crown in 4th All Pakistan DHA Karachi Opening Golf Championship and dethrone holder Shabbir Iqbal here on Sunday.
Pakistan’s golfing legend, Munir was trailing by two strokes after 16th hole contest against his Islamabad Club-mate Shabbir Iqbal to end with an aggregate of 215 to lead the pack of 42 golfers on the final day at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club (DACGC).
Munir, who had qualified for this year’s Asian Tour ended the event with rounds of 71, 71 and 73 to finish on the top. Playing in tension packed final three holes, Munir played double bogey on the 16th hole before wrapping the title.
Shabbir Iqbal and Amjad Yousuf of Karachi Golf Club (KGC) finished joint runner-up with a total of 216. Shabbir carded the rounds of 70, 72 and final round of two-over-par 74 which let the title slipped out of his hands.
Muhammad Munir collected the crystal trophy and cash purse of Rs189, 202 and Shabbir Iqbal and Javed Inayat both got runner-up trophy and cash prize of Rs 10, 3122 each. Secretary Pakistan Golf Federation Taimur Hasan and Secretary DAC&GC Brig (Rtd), Abdul Qayyum and Convener Tournament Committee Ismail Ahmed Hashim were also present.
Iftikhar Ahmed of Lahore Gymkhana won the Senior Masters event. Ghulam Nabi and Akhtar Ali both from the same club finished second and third respectively. In the ladies event Miss Park (KGC) with score 76 was winner (net) while Tehmina Rashid (IGC) with score 88 was winner (gross).
At the end the chief guest distributed trophies and prizes among the winners in various categories.
