Al Baseer Foundation

Al-Baseer, a non-profit organisation is currently working jointly with the existing eye care providers in Pakistan to reduce avoidable blindness for the deserving and margin.

Al-Baseer Foundation was first inaugurated in 2012 at the localities of Defence, area of Karachi. After lots of enthusiasm with the aim of providing comprehensive and effective eye care services to less privileged communities and thus contributing in reduction of avoidable blindness. The foundation was first established by the pioneer and a living legend of Prevention and Control of Blindness Program ( Prof. Saleh Memon), 1st National Coordinator and currently Executive Director of Al-Ibrahim Eye Hospital in Karachi.

With the visionary mission of serving humanity and individuals who needlessly blind due to the unavailability and non affordability of eye care services. By extinguished and inclusive comprehensive eye care services, team of al-Baseer enormously trying to provide many more necessities for people to accomplished their sight easily. Basically working under some strategic planning’s as to work together with both public and private sectors in the country to provide fully inclusively well experience eye service and develop referral support and networking. Sufficiently seems the most possible way through which they connect with more peoples to enhance their sights and make their life more better.

Foundation trying all the ways from arranging small awareness raising walk, also by conducting a capacity building session under communication and behavior skills for eye health professionals as an integral part of inclusive partners. Time to time organizing eye screening camps in different marginalized areas of Karachi to fully provide free of cost efficient testing facilities for children, women and older people specifically who face variety of issues in accessing eye care service with easy going process.

Most estimated records show the statistics of blindness ration in Pakistan as nearly 2 million people with blindness and about more than 4 million people with visually impaired are actually existed around us with severe visual impairment due to lack of resources and opportunities. CATARACY & VITUAL IMPAIRMENT are major causes of sight loss today, so Al-Baseer brings a major platform to collaborate with others to fights against blindness and make brighten the life’s of  coming generation future.

As 75% of visual impairment can be cured or prevented, Al-Baseer are working to reduce the burden of avoidable blindness and create an inclusive society where everyone can have their rights including persons with disabilities, children, women and other marginalized groups. Sophisticatedly work with national and provincial health systems through system strengthening approach for the prevention and treatment of blindness. Also serving in different regions of Africa for provision of comprehensive eye care services.

Since it’s inception, the foundation has been providing subsidized eye care services in the country through its eye hospital located in Karachi, primary eye care centres in Sindh province and community outreach activities in whole country supported by generous donors and partners. The foundation’s building blocks are aligned with WHO Health System framework and is achieving its goal through leadership, Governance, Medical Products & Technologies, Health Workforce, Health Financing, Information & Research and Service Delivery; with enlightenment of proper management team, perfect mechanism for procurement with standard of quality equipment’s, latest innovative technology, efficient capacity building in Ophthalmology, Donations, Zakat support, Annual progresses, reports, print media and social media with hospital based community centre.

 Successfully and most awaited collaboration of Al-Baseer now jointly connected with University Of Lahore (UOL), as Lahore to turn the hospital’s Ophthalmology Department into a care of excellence in the region. AL-BASEER has taken one step ahead for the patients who need specialized eye care services band investigations at very subsidized rates by adding OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY (OCT) for retinal investigations in their already available advanced ophthalmic technology setup.
