Join The Second Floor (T2F) for an evening of poetry featuring Kavish Omar and Sahar Ali.
Kavish Omar is an acclaimed Urdu poet from Chittagong. Renowned for his diction and style, he was amongst the few poets considered to be critical to the East Pakistan mushaeraah circuit. Kavish was the editor of Payaam-e-Mashriq and the monthly publications; Karnafuli, Parcham and Seemaab. He was also responsible for the Adabi Safhah of the Daily Pasbaan and the Daily Shujaat. Kavish came to Karachi soon after the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971 but held several mushaeraahs before his departure with the key aim of bringing people together through the magic of Urdu poetry. Kavish’s collection of poems is called Sang-o-Saman and some of his works recited at mushaeraahs held on M.V. Bagh-e-Dacca and its sister ship, Bagh-e-Karachi, have been compiled on a CD which is available at T2F.
Sahar Ali is a young poet from Karachi and is Kavish Omar’s daughter. Her book, Tumhaaray Gham Kay Mausam Mayn, written after the premature death of her husband, became a bestseller. The Seh-Mahi Kitaabi Silsilah produced an issue about her poetry and leading writers and readers have commented on her work.
