An Evening with Indian Artists “Manisha Parekh” and “Ashok Ahuja”

An Evening with Indian Artists Manisha Parekh and Ashok Ahuja

Join The Second Floor (T2F) for an evening of conversation with Indian artists, Manisha Parekh and Ashok Ahuja. The session will be moderated by independent curator and writer, Sumbul Khan.

Manisha Parekh

Manisha Parekh straddles painting, collage and drawing to create works that incorporate both the geometric and the organic. Her most recognized works are created by layering shapes cut from handmade papers into dense fields of pattern and energy, sometimes perforating the surface and adding other materials.

She is one of the few artists working in India today who continues to explore an exclusively abstract language. She has developed an artistic practice which also pays homage to the craft and textiles traditions of her native land. Manisha trained at MS University in Baroda and the Royal College of Art in London. She has exhibited widely and consistently in India since 1988 and held Fellowships in Germany, France and the UK. Manisha lives and works in New Delhi and is visiting Pakistan for the first time.

Ashok Ahuja

Ashok Ahuja started his career acting, presenting, narrating, and writing commentaries for radio and television. He has worked on over 200 plays, features, and educational programmes in English, Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi. Trained in journalism, theatre, and film, he has written, produced and directed two national and international award winning feature films, Aadharshila and Vasundhara.

Ashok has been a Senior Fellow in Residence at the Harvard University Center for the Study of World Religions where his research focused on the Soteriology of Narrative in exploring the possibilities and impossibilities of universal expression in the arts (1991-93); and on Language and Identity (1995-96). His recent work with digital images and computer animation has been exhibited in five solo shows by prominent galleries in New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Ashok is the author of The Third Race, a fable published by Seagull Books in 2004.
