Annual Bilingual Public Speaking Contest 2012 at Defence Authority College for Women (Phase-VII)Annual Bilingual Public Speaking Contest 2012 was held at Defence Authority Degree College for Women Phase-VII Ext on 10 February, 2012. Professor Dr Zafar Iqbal, Dean Faculty of Arts, Karachi University was the chief guest.

The Public Speaking Contest was organized to commemorate the 100th Birth Anniversary of the celebrated poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The topic/theme of the contest was a famous verse of Faiz, “Speak for your lips are yet free; Speak for the truth is still alive.”

The chief guest in his address said that oratory was an art and an important ingredient of personality which ensured success in life. He added that it was reassuring that our youth had lot of potential which spoke of a bright future of the nation. He appreciated the deft management of the programme as well as the content, quality and standard of speeches.

Two students each from leading colleges of the metropolis participated in the Contest. Earlier the Principal of the College, Ms. Farhat Agha said that co-curricular activities played a pivotal role in development of personality. She said that the college was playing an important role in developing the young women folk into an enlightened generation which could face the challenges of life boldly.

The third prize went to Zirreah Saleem of Defence Authority College for Women Phase-VIII. In the Urdu Declamation, the first position was clinched by Abdullah Jamal of Karachi University, second was won by Maria Irshad of Bahria College Karsaz while Irshad Javeed of PECHS Govt College for Women got the third prize.

The Judges of this contest were Professor Dr. Hilal Qureshi, Professor Dr. Rana Hilal, Mr Ali Hashmi, Ms. Soria Javeed Sheikh.

The overall trophy was won by PECHS Govt College for Women. In the end the chief guest awarded shields and distributed certificates among the winners and participants. Director Education DHA, Commodore (R) Talib Hussain was also present on the occasion.
