Annual Day Function at DA Degree CollegeThe Annual Day Function of Defence Authority Degree College was held on Saturday. Ms Syeda Shehla Raza, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly was the chief guest on the occasion. The Annual Day events included a Science Exhibition, presentation of national songs by the students and the Prize Distribution Ceremony.

Ms Shehla Raza said that the basic purpose of education was to produce enlightened and dynamic individuals who had the courage, conviction and force of character to face the onslaught of life. She said that the biggest threat to the country was from rampant spread of militancy and intolerance in society. She added that it was through promotion of knowledge and enlightenment that the nation could overcome this menace which was eating the vitals of the country.

The deputy speaker who herself had been a seasoned teacher before coming in politics said that faculty of any institution make or break it. She said that faculty selection should be strictly on merit and competence if an institution was to flourish and progress. She said that her Govt unscrupulously adhered to the principles of merit and transparency in selection and appointments of teachers/lecturers.

Syeda Shehla Raza referring to Aitzaz Ahsan’s book ‘Indus Saga’ said that excavation of the most ancient civilization of the world from Moenjodaro revealed that culture, civilization, modernity and refinement prevailed in society some 5500 years back. She said that as inheritors of the legacy of glorious Indus civilization and the impeccable Sufi traditions in Sindh, the province could play a vanguard role in eliminating the threat of militancy and extremism from the country through promotion of knowledge, love and harmony in society.

Earlier the Principal, Commodore (R) Imran Ansari said that the College focuses on grooming the students in their formative age and all activities in the institution aimed at nurturing and polishing the natural skills and talent of the students. He particularly praised Waqar Ahmed Shaikh, a student with impaired vision, who won several prizes in English and Urdu debates and declamations at intercollegiate level and was declared the ‘Student of the Year’. He described him as a symbol of courage and determination who despite all adds and lack of resources struggled to the position of distinction and eminence through his sheer talent, hard work and perseverance.

He said that DHA Suffa University would start functioning from fall semester in August’ 2012 and offer undergraduate courses in engineering and management sciences.

In the end, the prizes and certificates were distributed among the students. The Director Education presented the College crest to the Chief Guest. Director Education DHA, Commodore (Retd) Talib Hussain, Principals of DHA educational institutions and a large number of students and parents attended the function.
