Sadequain creates his figurative art, calligraphy and poetry (Rubaiyaat) with the help of insights which are transcendental in nature. Join The Second Floor for an elaborated conversation between Shahid Rassam , Firasat Rizvi and Sultan Naqvi exploring the various themes in Sadequain’s work.

About The Speakers:

Firasat Rizvi:
Rizvi is a poet, fiction writer, and critic. He recalls himself as a member of the literary scene of Pakistan in the 70’s. He has delivered notable lectures and talks on various literary forums. In poetry, he wrote not only Ghazal and Nazm, but has expressed himself in relatively less used forms such as Haiku poems and Rubaiyaat. His literary and critical essays have been published in numerous literary magazines and books. He has written seven books out of which two books consist of Ghazaliyaat (Kitab e Rafta & Gharagh Shikasta), one has Hyco poems (Kohr May Dobi Sham), another poems’ collection is on Palestine struggle (Salam Palestine), there are two collections of Rubaiyaat (Dard Ki Qindeel & Zamistan Ka Chand), whereas (Aayat e Mohabat) comprises of religious poetry.

Shahid Rassam:
Shahid is a renowned Pakistani Canadian painter and sculptor. He dabbles in writing and is a passionate rights activist and educationist. He is the Principal of Arts Council Central Institute of Arts and Craft, Pakistan. Shahid has exhibited his work around the world, including the UK, USA, Canada, France, Italy, UAE, India, and Pakistan. Famous writer and art critic Dr. Akbar Naqvi has done a critical analysis of his work in his book “Sense and Insanity.”Shahid plays the bridge between various genres of art and prominent writers like Mushtaq Ahmed Yusufi, Anwar Maqsood, Zehra Nigah, Iftikhar Arif, Kishwar Naheed, and Gulzar have praised his extraordinary contribution to the world of art.

Syed Sultan Ahmed Naqvi:
Syed Sultan Ahmed Naqvi is Sadequain’s nephew. He grew up around Sadequain and is witness to the making of his masterpieces whether in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Mangla or India. As a child and later an adult he imbibed the spirit of Sadequain which left an indelible mark on his. A first hand witness to Sadequain’s paintings and poetry he is an expert on Sadequain’s life and works. Since his university days he has hosted exhibitions of Sadequain’s paintings and for 30 years has been publishing materials on Sadequain including magazines and books. Sultan Ahmed Naqvi is the author and compiler of several books on Sadequain including Urdu publications “Rubaiyaat-e-Kuliyaat”, the complete collection of Sadequain’s poetry and “Shair, Musswir, Khataat Sadequain” which explores the different facets of Sadequain’s life. His English publications include “Ghalib: Call of Angels”, “Surah-e-Rehman 1970,” and “Sadequain Drawings”. Currently Sultan Ahmed is engaged in further research in his uncle’s life and is often asked to speak about him at public forums.
