Join The Second Floor (T2F) for an evening of raw, unplugged, acoustic music featuring the best of Pakistani musical talent.
Arieb’s Azhar’s musical journey started as a child when he discovered that people paid attention when he expressed himself vocally. His parents were involved in television and theatre and he was exposed to a range of musical expressions at a young age. The folk and classical music he listened to in his early years influenced and nurtured his love for traditional music. He picked up the guitar in his teens as a simple, acoustic accompaniment for his voice. During this period of his life, Arieb was greatly influenced by the humanist poetry of Faiz and Sheikh Ayaz, and by the revolutionary music and poetry of Latin America. He often performed and sang for left-wing student functions and political rallies in Karachi and interior Sindh.
Arieb spent 13 years in Croatia where he played with various world music troupes and headed his own band of Irish Celtic Music. He returned to Pakistan in 2004 to reconnect with his roots and to continue his musical journey. He has performed at major venues and festivals and was also featured on two seasons of Coke Studio. Arieb has also performed abroad in various festivals and projects in the UK, USA, Bosnia, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Kyrgyzstan and India.
- Akmal Qadri, a flute wizard, is the son of the renowned flute player Sain Ditta Qadri and grandson of the legendary folk instrumentalist Sain Marna. With his classical knowledge of South Asian music and his talent for improvisation, Akmal has performed at festivals and venues in Pakistan and abroad with top classical, folk and jazz musicians.
- Zeeshan Mansoor perfected his skills as a lead guitar player in the clubs of London. He has a keen interest in the folk music of Pakistan and complements Arieb’s music with dazzling guitar solos that have a distinct blues and reggae groove.
- Kashif Ali Dani is the nephew of the late classical maestro, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan and hails from the Sham Chaurasi Gharana of music. He is one of the most skilled tabla players of the country and is able to alternate from a pure classical sound to a completely experimental percussive sound.
- Zain Ali is the youngest member of the band and is a guitar and bass maestro. His musical genius lies in his unconventional chords and rich understanding of music.
