Book Launch: Living with Metaphors by Dr. Salman Sarwat by T2F

Join The Second Floor for the book launch of “Living with Metaphors” on contemporary poetry by Dr. Salman Sarwat; a compilation of Urdu and English pieces of poetry as well as some relevant visuals. The author will be accompanied by Farasat Rizvi, Ajmal Siraj and Abbas Mumtaz.

About The Poet:
Salman Sarwat
is an upcoming talent from the younger generation of Urdu poets who attracted attention with their promising work. Salman was born in Karachi on 17th September 1977. He completed his schooling from Hyderabad, and moved to Karachi for higher studies and did two masters (in Commerce and Philosophy), and Ph.D. in finance from The University of Karachi. Starting his career from the Corporate sector, his area of work ranged from an oil refinery and banking. He then switched his career to academia and is now serving as a faculty member at a public sector University. Salman has developed his style in Urdu free verse poetry with a creative uniqueness of subjects and treatment. Poems, Writing critiques, literary essays, short stories, and poetry, are some of his skills. He has read from his work in various literary festivals. Salman’s first collection of poetry (May Iste’aroon May Ji Raha Hon) has recently been published.

About The Speakers:
Firasat Rizvi:

Rizvi is a poet, fiction writer, and critic. He recalls himself as a member of the literary scene of Pakistan in the 70’s.He has delivered notable lectures and talks on various literary forums. In poetry, he wrote not only Ghazal and Nazm, but has expressed himself in relatively less used forms such as Haiku poems and Rubaiyaat. His literary and critical essays have been published in numerous literary magazines and books. He has written seven books out of which two books consist of Ghazaliyaat (Kitab e Rafta & Gharagh Shikasta), one has Hyco poems (Kohr May Dobi Sham), another poems’ collection is on Palestine struggle (Salam Palestine), there are two collections of Rubaiyaat (Dard Ki Qindeel & Zamistan Ka Chand), whereas (Aayat e Mohabat) comprises of religious poetry.

Ajmal Siraj:
Ajmal is one of the renowned poets of Urdu, who made his impression at a very early age. He has a prominent place among the poets who came in ’80s from Karachi. Since then, he transcendent himself as poet who writes with spiritual orientation but in Sahle Mumtana. Ghazal is his preferred medium of expression. His poetry collection “Aur May Sochta Reh Gaya” got considerable appreciation from literary circles. By profession, Ajmal Siraj is a journalist.

About the moderator:
Abbas Mumtaz
is a journalist, a radio broadcaster, and an emerging young poet. Abbas did his masters in Mass Communication
