November 8th 2013 marks the eleventh death anniversary of one the most iconoclastic Urdu poets. Rarely have poets enjoyed a cult following like that of Jaun Elia, whose unique expressions sparkle with an originality that stands out within the traditional form of ghazal.
Join The Second Floor (T2F) on the eve of Jaun Elia’s death anniversary, as poet, writer and journalist, Shamil Shams shares his memories of his mentor with Peerzada Salman.
- Shamil Shams works for Radio Deutsche Welle’s Urdu and Asian English services in Bonn, Germany. He has an MSc from the London School of Economics and an MA in English Literature from Karachi University. He has worked for The News, and has written for Dawn, Newsline and other Pakistani magazines and newspapers.
- Peerzada Salman is a senior reporter with Dawn.
