Students from DHA Suffa University (DSU’s) Mechanical Engineering Department won both the first and second positions in the National University Projects Competition of Space Fair 2016 held under the aegis of Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) at Pakistan Air force Museum, Karachi. DSU’s “Hybrid Rocket Engine” (Pakistan’s first hybrid rocket engine program) won the coveted first position and a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while DSU’s “Solar-Powered Airplane” won the second place and a cash prize of Rs 15,000. This was the hallmark of DSU’s debut appearance in the prestigious event and their success demonstrated the readiness of Suffa University students to make their mark in the professional world on graduation from the University.
SUPARCO’s technical team which visited the Space Fair appreciated the calibre and research talent of DSU students and promised to support all research initiatives and final year projects of DSU students relevant to SUPARCO for integration in their national programs. Such projects, currently being supervised by Dr Bilal of DSU, include Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), UAV Catapult Launch System, Turbojet Engine, Hybrid Rocket Engine and Regeneratively Cooled Liquid Rocket Engine.
Administrator DHA Brig Shahid Hassan Ali appreciated the talent, ingenuity and potential of DSU students and urged them to keep working hard with utmost dedication to achieve the goal of academic and research excellence and to bring further laurels to DSU and DHA.
