Double Trouble: Obesity & Diabetes; Protect your Family at T2F

Obesity and Diabetes are the two expensive and potentially lethal epidemics of our time, affecting children and adults all over the globe. Pakistan is no exception. There are 50 million overweight and 10 million obese individuals in Pakistan. Moreover 1 in 4 individuals are diabetic. 1 in 5 women are suffering from PCOS. Life expectancy is reduced 5- 10 years and huge burden on health services.

With reference to this epidemic, the purpose of this session is to create awareness in general public towards the scale of problem, prevention and treatment.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Tanvir Raazi
is advance laparoscopic surgeon, specializes in Obesity & Metabolic Surgery. He performs a broad range of Laparoscopic and General surgical procedures. He obtained MBBS from Sind Medical College in 1993 and completed house job in Medicine and Surgery at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in 1994 and then proceeded to Ireland and the UK, where he dedicated the following 12 years towards excelling in General and Minimal Access (Key- hole) surgery. After undertaking basic surgical training at the University Hospital Limerick, The Ade- laide & Meath Hospitals, Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Tanvir accomplished FRCS from The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, Scotland in 1999. Dr. Tanvir successfully completed Irish Surgical Residency Program in Advance Laparoscopy, Colorectal and Breast Cancer surgery at Sligo University Hospital, Letterkenny University Hospital and Galway University Hospital Group run by College of Surgeons of Ireland. He obtained additional training in Colorectal surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, UK and a Diploma in Laparoscopic surgery from Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France. At present, Dr.Raazi has obesity clinics at three locations in the city of Karachi. Currently he is performing surgeries at Medicare Hospital, OMI Hospital and Usman Memorial Hospital. Dr Tanvir Raazi is enthusiastically striving for the awareness, prevention and surgical treatment of Obesity, Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes Mellitus in adults and children. He strongly believes that the need of the hour is to educate masses and medical fraternity for the prevention and treatment of these epidemic.
