Harassment without Borders Talk by HRCP

Recently, there has been increased awareness of the insidious problem of sexual harassment and an understanding of how pervasive it really is. However, this awareness of the problem must be accompanied by a practical understanding of what constitutes sexual harassment, how individuals and organisations that are privy to it can respond to it (including what systems are already in place) and how complainants can hold harassers accountable, while ensuring their own safety. These issues are even more important in light of the increased use of social media – as a tool to harass and then malign victims, as a means of exposing perpetrators of harassment and as an avenue for society to either support or suppress accounts of harassment.

To demystify the law and discuss ways to be more active citizens, lawyers Sara Malkani and Hiba Thobani will be joined by activist Areeba Fatima with Uzma Noorani as the moderator on Sunday, 1st July 2018 at the Faraar Gallery, T2F. Sara Malkani is an Advocate of the High Court of Sindh and currently the Advocacy Advisor (Asia) for the Center for Reproductive Rights, an INGO. Hiba Thobani is an Advocate of the High Court of Sindh and a law teacher. Areeba Fatima is a recent A Level graduate, who has taken a stand against sexual harassment in educational institutions and is advocating for the implementation of policies against such harassment. Uzma Noorani is a human rights activist and the Co-Chairperson at Human Rights of Commission Pakistan (HRCP)
