International Youth Media Day at T2F

International Youth Media Day will be celebrated in 20 countries by International Youth Media Summit delegates around the world. The delegates from Pakistan will be organising the event in collaboration with Vaasil Productions at T2F where they will screen the films that were produced in different countries during the International Youth Media Summits.

This will be an opportunity for the youth of Karachi to watch the films and interact with the filmmakers who produced these award winning films. The filmmakers will share their experience of working with an international crew and producing a film in a different country. The screenings and interactive session will be followed by a panel discussion with prominent Pakistani filmmakers who will be sharing their stories and experiences working in Pakistani film industry. The theme of the panel discussion will be ‘Power of Storytelling’ and the speakers will talk about how filmmaking is an important tool in the world today and how the youth can make the best use of it. The participants will also get a chance to learn how they can tell the stories more eloquently and create powerful films.

About the Speakers:

Haya Fatima Iqbal: Haya Fatima Iqbal is an independent filmmaker who co-produced an HBO documentary film A Girl in the River, following the life of an honor killing attempt survivor in the heart of Punjab. The film won the 2016 Academy Award in the Short Documentary category.
Her work has been featured on CNN, Huffington Post, Deutsche Welle, TV Russia, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Dawn, Daily Times, The News, Geo News, and Aaj News. She also teaches media and journalism at Habib University.

Ali Abbas Naqvi: Ali Abbas Naqvi is a young Pakistani screenwriter and director who wrote the critically acclaimed Pakistani feature film Laal Kabootar which was Pakistan’s official submission to the Oscars. He also directed Jugnoo which is an upcoming Pakistani feature film produced by Jami.

Umair Nasir Ali: Umair Nasir Ali is a respectable faculty member of Karachi University’s Visual Studies department and is known for his eloquent teaching methods. He graduated from National College of Arts in 2008 and has since worked on a number of TV commercials and documentary films.

Babar Ali: Babar Ali is the board member of International Youth Media Summit and the founding member of Vaasil Productions. He wrote the screenplay for Pakistani feature film Pinky Memsaab and has written and directed several short films around the globe. His short film The True Impact won an Award at Plural+ Film Festival by United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and was also nominated for the International Emmy JSC Award. His recent short film Pari of Pokhara has been selected in five international festivals including the Prisma Film Festival in Rome, Italy.
