A discussion with acclaimed poet Iftikhar Arif on the literature of different languages in Pakistan and his candid views on the current socio-political affairs, with Harris Khalique.

About the Poet:
Iftikhar Hussain Arif
is widely popular as an Urdu poet, intellectual, and philosopher from Pakistan. He was born in Lucknow on March 21, 1940, and lived there till he migrated to Pakistan in 1965. He completed his Masters in Arts from the University of Lucknow. Three of his collections, “Mehr-e-Doneem”, “Harf-e-Baryab” and “Jahan-e-Maloom” have been published in many editions. He has headed the Pakistan Academy of Letters and the National Language Authority. He also received the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, and Presidential Pride of Performance awards, which are two of the highest literary awards given by the Government of Pakistan.

About the Moderator:
Harris Khalique
is considered a leading Urdu and English language poet, essayist, and columnist. Harris Khalique has published nine collections of verse and two books of nonfiction including Crimson Papers: Reflections on Struggle, Suffering, and Creativity in Pakistan. His poetry has been anthologized internationally and translated into several languages. He is a recipient of the President’s Award for Pride of Performance and the UBL Literary Excellence Award. He has worked professionally and voluntarily for community development and human rights.
