Medical Awareness Program on “Diabetics” held at DHA Head Office

A medical awareness programme highlighting the significance of health and life style modification in connection with diabetes was held at DHA Head Office arranged by DHA Medical Branch in coordination with Dr Essa Lab.

Dr Yousaf Kamal Mirza, a renowned medical specialist of Agha Khan University Hospital delivered a very informative and thought provoking lecture on diabetes delineating its causes, symptoms and preventive measures. Free sugar test was also arranged at the venue.

Dr Yousaf Kamal said that diabetes is a silent killer and mother of all diseases which affects the functioning of all body organs and is instrumental in causing hypertension, obesity, cholesterol, depression and heart attack etc. He explained that pancreas in the body releases insulin to help the body store and use sugar and fat from food we eat. He said that diabetes occur due to deficiency of insulin in body which is a metabolic disorder. He stressed that people with diabetes need to manage their disease to stay healthy.

The medical specialist said that to control the chronic disease of diabetes one needs to modify his life style by taking healthy diet, doing physical exercise and leading a tension free life. He said that crossing 100 mgd of sugar level in blood is the ringing bell of the commencement of disease adding that cut off sugar level in body is 110 mgd (fasting) and 160 mgd (random).

The doctor concluded that diabetes must not be taken lightly and proper medication as advised by the doctor and adoption of healthy life style should be adhered to in true letter and spirit.

Administrator DHA Brig Ibrar Hussain Bhatti appreciated DHA Medical Branch for arranging a very useful and enlightening medical programme. He stressed on the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and ensuring a stress free working environment to manage and control diabetes effectively.
