Tell us who you are?
My name is Shaheen Khan, I have my own brand called Khanz, and I’m also a social entrepreneur. I embellish my work with traditional motifs and patterns in my designs and I also promote the talented rural women of Pakistan who have amazing skills.
I started my brand in May 2011 and so far I’ve had a good response from people and I’ve had exhibitions in Pakistan, India and Dubai. My clothing lines include Pret, Formals, Casuals, Bridals, T shirts, Knits, Winter Wraps, Rillis and other Home Accessories.
Tell us about your brand? When did you realize that Fashion Designing is something that you have to do?
At KHANZ, I personally design my products while considering the latest international designs, styles and trends. Thus the products are based upon traditional art and spiced with a hint of modernism. We ensure quality in all the products; which live up to the luxury standards of the east. The products are crafted out of high quality raw materials that applaud our authentic culture. We provide a gateway through which people can discover the treasures of Pakistani culture and art.
Our genuine desire is to promote traditional hand embroidery crafted by local hardworking women who strive to earn a healthy income. By working with KHANZ people are actually helping women to earn money for their families. As for the realization, fashion designing has always been a lifelong passion of mine. Our latest stocks are available at various multi-designer stores in Karachi, such as Fashion Pakistan Lounge-Dolmen Mall Clifton, Showstopper-Park Towers, Peacock Lounge-Port Grand and Cocktail-26th Commercial Street and we also sell Online through our Facebook Page “Khanz.designs” to our clients residing abroad.
What was the first outfit that you designed?
Experimenting with various fabrics has been something I have done from a very long time. I cannot remember the first outfit exactly but I am quite sure it must have been something in khaadi as I love that fabric and I used to experiment a lot with it when I was studying textile designing.
How would you define your design philosophy?
My brand has always strived to incorporate local embroideries in its designs to celebrate and appreciate the capability of our rural women artisan from interior Sindh. So they can also contribute towards a better future for our nation.
Each creation of KHANZ is a piece of art inspired by the desire to introduce Pakistani crafts to the upscale local and international markets. Their collections are for women who aspire to be different from the ordinary crowd.
What are your favorite fabrics to work with? and why?
I love Denim. For me it is a vast and wonderful medium. I am on the lookout for the thinnest denim that people can wear in the summers as well. I also like Khaadi net because it is the lightest wearable fabric in formal wear, especially for Karachiites.

I love gardening, I have a kitchen garden that I take good care of. Baking is the other thing that keeps me busy and I love listening to good music.
How do you manage your professional life with your personal and family life?
It takes careful planning and planning ahead of time. I prefer not to let the two overlap and so I try my hardest to maintain a balance between the two.

I’d like to see myself promoting Pakistani cultural products in international markets, in as many places as possible.
If you had one million rupees to give away, what would you do with it?
