Join The Second Floor for a session with Farah Yasmeen Shaikh, International Kathak Artist in conversation with Hoori Noorani featuring performances by Farah with Yousuf Kerai, Shehroze Hussain and musician of Tarz Group on Wednesday, 10th June 2020 at 8 pm on T2F Facebook Live.

An internationally renowned performer, choreographer, instructor, and Founder/Director of Noorani Dance, Farah is known for her evocative storytelling, technical precision, delicacy, and grace. Farah received two decades of training from the late Pandit Chitresh Das, and has developed her unique artistic voice focused on topics of historical, social and political relevance, whilst maintaining the classical elements of Kathak. Farah performs her own traditional and innovative works, most notably, The Forgotten Empress and The Partition Project — based on the 1947 India-Pakistan Partition. A TEDx speaker and host of her own podcast on Rukus Avenue Radio, Heartistry, Farah has received many grants and awards for her contributions to the artistic landscape in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to training the next generation of Kathak artists in the U.S., Farah performs and teaches extensively in Pakistan.

Hoori Noorani runs the Karachi-based publishing house Maktaba-e-Danyal, which she inherited from her late father Malik Noorani. Her love for literature and linguistics led her towards a Master’s degree in Philology with a major in Russian and World literature from the People’s Friendship University in Moscow. Maktaba-e-Danyal has published works of renowned authors that include Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi, Syed Sibte Hassan, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Iftikhar Arif, Fahmida Riaz, and Habib Jalib. Hoori is also a trained classical dancer.
