Neelofar Abbasi, a renowned artiste, was a well-known voice and then became a familiar face. In the days when radio ruled, she shot to fame with her expressive vocalizations in Radio Pakistan’s plays and soon moved on to PTV’s Karachi Centre. Along with several successful plays, “Shehzoree” became a runaway hit catapulting its lead characters to the status of stars in the black and white days of PTV.
A generation later, many viewers still remember Neelofar er as “The Shehzoree Girl.” Several hits followed, including “Happy Eid Mubarak” and “Eid Ka Jora”, highly regarded as TV classics.
Neelofar Abbasi completed her Masters in Microbiology from Karachi University and then married producer and writer, Qamar Ali Abbasi. Now based in New York, she has recently published her memoirs entitled, “Kahi Ankahi”. A short reading from her book and some clips of her popular plays will accompany the conversation.
Neelofar Abbasi will be in conversation with writer and critic, Asif Farrukhi. Asif is a radio buff and used to be a regular at Bazm-e-Talaba, the students’ programme at Radio Pakistan, Karachi.
