A Well Marked area of low pressure has developed in center point of Arabian Sea causing a powerful tropical cyclone. Out of the eight countries of the region, it was Pakistan’s turn to name the cyclone. Pakistan named the cyclone as ‘Nilofar’. The cyclone has much Potential for development of a dangerous Tropical Cyclone which is likely to hit Pakistan, India and Oman in the coming days and will bring heavy rains in Karachi and along other coastal areas of the country.
According to Meteorological Department of Pakistan, the cyclone is likely to move initially northwestwards direction during next 24/36 hours and then it may recurve northeastwards.It further added that thundershowers accompanied by strong gusty winds with isolated heavy falls are expected in Lower Sindh including Karachi and Coastal Areas of Balochistan during Wednesday to Friday. During the storm, winds of severe intensity, around 175-200 nautical miles expected to be witnessed. The sea conditions along Pakistan coast may be rough to very rough from Wednesday evening to Friday.
Residents of DHA Karachi and its adjacent areas are strongly advised not to visit Coastline / Clifton Beach from Wednesday to Friday (29 – 31 October 14) and take necessary precautionary measures to reduce / mitigate vulnerabilities. DHA Authorities will also remain alert to provide necessary support to its residents if needed.
