“Memory is the diary we all carry about with us.” ― Oscar Wilde
Rapidly changing environments of our habitats often result in the recent past becoming a long lost memory. The transitions are so swift and hasty that a lot of important details are overlooked, becoming a part of our subconscious while trying to accept and adjust to the new variations in our life and tying the loose ends together.
Suleman Khilji and Sajid Khan have recreated such transitions and experiences which are now embedded in their memories, dominated by the present.
The obscure gloom witnessed in Khan’s work is further enhanced by his use of graphite. His imagery is a reflection of the current state of affairs of the country at large, where everything is grey, with a recurring absence of light.
The ambiguous and heavily laden ghostly forms loosely painted in a melancholic mood by Khilji render fleeting memories and experiences. These forms are identifiable silhouettes which unless closely observed could easily go unnoticed.
The artist’s narratives hit so close to home that they become the viewer’s narrative.
