A Science Seminar was held at Defence Authority Degree College for Women Phase-VIII on the eve of World International Day of Crystallography and Family Farming. Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rehman was the chief guest of the function.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Atta-ur-Rehman emphasized the importance of science in our lives. He said that discoveries were transforming our lives; adding that research was pivotal for augmenting learning and for creation of new knowledge. He said that one must have thirst and quest for knowledge to unfold the mysteries of nature which were manifest in plants, stars, rocks etc.
Dr Atta also gave a thought provoking presentation on ‘Wondrous World of Science and Innovation”. He said that his obsession for establishing a modern institute of research and higher education of international stature in the country has crystallized in shape of HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, Karachi University where presently 500 students including foreign students were pursuing their PhD programmes. He said that free higher education for all on merit would bring a paradigm shift in education and help in developing a strong and progressive nation.
The students presented thought provoking and research oriented projects on different subjects such as crystallography in chemistry and physics, construction of solar energy collector based on re-crystallization, molecular geometry in mathematics and family farming in botany.
At the end a highly informative interactive question-answers session was held. Chief Guest distributed shields among the participants of the seminar. Director Education DHA, Commodore (R) Talib Hussain presented College Memento to the Chief Guest.
