Sur ka Safar: An Evening with Sannan Mahboob on the Rubab at T2F


Join The Second Floor, for their next Sur Ka Safar series; An evening with Sannan Mahboob accompanied by Yousuf Kerai on the tabla on Saturday, 29th June!
In this performance, Sannan will be presenting the art of classical Rubab playing along with the more popular Afghani folk repertoire. He will be accompanied on the tabla by Yousuf Kerai.

About the Artists:
Sannan Mahboob, is an aerospace engineering student, hailing from Swat. At the age of sixteen he took up playing the Chitrali Sitar as a hobby and later on the Rubab. In 2015 he was accepted as Rubab virtuoso, Homayoun Sakhi’s disciple in Afghanistan.
Sannan has performed at many gigs and collaborated with various bands, musicians and instrumentalists. He became a member of the All Pakistan Music Conference (APMC Lahore) in 2017 and has been a performer at their annual music festivals. Sannan was awarded the Emerging Rubabist Award by SETA in 2018. Currently he is associated with Yoon; an Islamabad based band.

Yousuf learned to sing and play the harmonium under the tutelage of the late Master Babu Khan. At the age of sixteen, he was accepted as a student of the tabla maestro Ustad Khurshid Hussain and has been playing tabla for the last twenty years. Yousuf holds a BA in mathematics and a MAT in teaching mathematics. He has given talks and taught courses on music and mathematics for Aga Khan University (2011 – 2014), PeaceNiche-T2F (2010-2016), School of Leadership’s Young Leaders Conference (2011 & 2012), Tedx Karachi (2014), Faiz International Festival (2015, 2016 & 2017), Habib University (2016) and has held many recitals and orchestra performances with master musicians in USA and in Pakistan. He currently serves as a faculty member at Habib University where he teaches courses in mathematics, history of mathematics, and music & mathematics. Yousuf is the founder of Tarz Group, an ensemble of classically trained musicians, committed to helping young listeners delight in their South Asian musical heritage so that it can be passed on to future generations as an integral part of our South Asian identity. Tarz Group has held many live concerts in Karachi and Lahore and have released an album titled, The Essence of South Asia, which is available internationally on digital music platforms.
