About the Artiste:
The son and disciple of his father, Shehroze Hussain has learned the art of sitar and singing from Sajid Hussain. He started at a very early age of 6 and has performed in various private and public organisations such as Sampurna, All Pakistan Music Conference, Tehzeeb Foundation, Lahore Music Forum, Childrens Literature Festival, T2F (The Second Floor) and Faiz Foundation Trust. He has appeared on television and has served as guest artist for Aga Khan University’s Humanities and Social Sciences lecture series and School of Leadership’s Young Leaders Conference in 2011 and then for a session in TEDxKarachi in 2014 and three performances at Habib University, including the very first Convocation 2018. He has also co-taught six-week electives with Yousuf Kerai on The Music of South Asia for AKU’s Humanities and Social Sciences program (2011 – 2013). He is one of the lead performers for the ensemble, TARZ GROUP and his work has been extensively featured in their latest album, The Essence of South Asia, which has been released internationally on digital music platforms such as CDBaby, iTunes, Amazon mp3, Saavn and Patari.pk. He has also appeared on television as a guest artist on a talk show on HUM TV and as an accompanist in the popular Coke Studio Sessions (Seasons 8, 9 and 10). In addition, he has provided background music to the famous Drama series, “Mann Mayal”. Shehroze possesses an excellent grip on the sitar and has great technical agility with his voice, bringing a fresh personality to the tradition of sitar players.

Yousuf Kerai hails from Karachi, Pakistan and was introduced to South Asian Music at the age of eight where he learned to sing, and play the harmonium, under the tutelage of the late Master Babu Khan. Through this, his interest in the tabla grew into an obsession. At the age of sixteen, he was accepted as a student of the great maestro, Ustad Khursheed Hussain. Yousuf has been a student of tabla for the last 20 years, even though he has spent eight of those years in the U.S.A. for the sake of higher education. Earning a B.A. in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Bennington College, Yousuf has taught at various institutions in USA and Pakistan in the capacity of a mathematics teacher and teacher trainer. He currently serves as Mathematics Lecturer and Founding Director of the Centre for South Asian Music at Habib University.
