A candle light vigil was held by people of civil society to remember and to pay tribute to the martyrs of Army Public School (APS) Peshawar, who were ruthlessly massacred in a brutal Taliban attack on 16 Dec, 2014.
A solemn and sobre ceremony in this regard was held at Nishan-e-Pakistan and Defence Authority Farhan Shaheed Park on Seaview Beach in DHA. A large number of people from all walks of life including students quietly gathered at Seaview after sunset and lit candles in remembrance of 141 shaheed students of APS who laid their lives for the country in a horrific act of terrorism which has no parallel in the country’s history.
It was a unique scene depicting sobriety, resolve and determination of the society to eliminate the ugly menace of terrorism, extremism and militancy from the country. They expressed their resolve to defeat terrorism through spread of knowledge and enlightenment in society. They said that the sad occasion has turned out to be a symbol of national unity as it united the entire nation on a single platform to fight the menace of terrorism in the country with renewed vigour, commitment and in a unified manner.
The people remembered the martyred students and teachers with great reverence and described the occasion as a painful day and a devastating national catastrophe that shocked the nation. They paid their heart rendering tributes to the martyrs and saluted them for the supreme sacrifices rendered by them.
