Twittamentary – A Film About Twitter Users

Twittamentary - A Film About Twitter Users

Join The Second Floor (T2F) for a screening of Twittamentary, a unique and experimental documentary about the everyday people who use Twitter, the online social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read 140 character messages.

Twittamentary features stories sourced via Twitter, with the final content chosen using online feedback. The contributors were filmed on a New York – Chicago – LA road trip, with a production crew sourced via Twitter.

Tan Siok Siok’s personal journey of discovery across America seeks to unveil what Twitter means to its users, rather than shareholders or celebrity endorsers of the microblogging phenomenon. The lives of Twitter users are as many and varied as their use of the technology.

@adventuregirl, a travel journalist with over 1.4 million followers has cultivated a well crafted path to celebrity, winning followers, one tweet at a time, with her invitations to vicariously peek into a life less ordinary.

For @JKrums, who will forever be know for his Twitter posting of the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ photo (and inadvertently forcing the hand of media evolution and the reliance on citizen journalism), the leap to ‘Twilebrity’ was unknowingly embedded in the spontaneity of a single tweet, broadcast around the world.

Twittamentary explores the role played by the social media phenomenon on issues as diverse as fame, homelessness, customer service, identity and even immortality. Uniting them is Twitter, the conduit for serendipity in the lives of its users.

  • Running Time: 63 minutes
  • The Director will join for a chat via Skype after the screening.
