Join The Second Floor for an Urdu Satire and a Poetry Recital by Shahzad Sharjeel on Monday, 17th February from 7pm to 8pm.
Shahzad Sharjeel’s preferred genre of expression is satire in Urdu prose and Ghazal in poetry. He regularly writes for Dawn and teaches International Political Economy at the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.

Sharjeel’s first book of poetry “Kiyun” was published in 2008. His collection of satire is expected soon. Asked why he doesn’t write poetry in English? He said, “Ishq Jo Urdu Mein Kartey Hein.”
A native of Tharparkar, Sindh, he grew up in Karachi. He has a post-graduate degree in International Relations from the University of Karachi where he has also taught. He also studied at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University Boston.

Sharjeel started his career in journalism and worked for two of the most widely read English language newspapers of the country. He then moved to the field of development where he worked for more than two decades. In addition to Karachi and Islamabad, he has worked in Washington, Abuja, and Tokyo on development and diplomatic assignments.
