DHA is a progressive and forward looking organization committed to the welfare and wellbeing of the community. The Housing Authority keeps taking community oriented dynamic initiatives as its corporate social responsibility. A function to celebrate the World Down Syndrome Day was held at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club with much fanfare. Begum Administrator DHA Brig Shahid Hassan Ali was the chief guest on the occasion.
More than 270 students from different special children schools of the metropolis alongwith their teachers enthusiastically participated in the event. A large number of people including prominent doctors, personalities and lady wives of DHA officers participated in the event to show their love, care and commitment for children suffering from Down Syndrome.
The venue of the function was colourfully and innovatively decorated demonstrating love and care of society for the special children. There was a music corner, a doctor’ enclosure, play area and lot of other attractions for the children. Musical/talent hunt programme generated lot of interest where children with down syndrome were provided an opportunity to sing with music on the stage. Some children demonstrated tremendous singing/musical talent and were given special prizes.
The children also actively participated in interactive session with team of doctors from Agha Khan Hospital and fondly conversed with them. Different sports competitions were also organized for the children who actively participated in them with joy and fun. The presence of Mr Naseer Soomro, the second tallest man of the world, was a source of attraction for the children who were delighted and amused to meet him. Begum Bilquis Edhi also graced the occasion as guest of honour and termed DHA’s initiative as a great service to the humanity.
Chief guest Begum Administrator DHA said that DHA accords highest priority to the care and support of people in need as a noble cause for the wellbeing of community. She said that it was encouraging that people from different segments of society including a large number of ladies participated in the event to share the joys of special children. She said that full inclusion of down syndrome children in societal affairs would help develop a healthy, encompassing and a progressive society. At the end the chief guest gave away souvenirs/gifts to all the participating children of the function.
