Ye Watan Humaara Hai 2: Encroachment – Taking Responsibility at T2F

In 2018 a combination of decisions taken by the Provincial Government of Sindh and the Supreme Court resulted in a flurry of eviction and demolition activities in Karachi labeled as the ‘anti-encroachment drive’. Street hawkers were driven away, and several stalls, walls and houses were demolished leading to a growing number of frustrated and angry citizens. That encroachment and illegal construction is a major challenge for any growing urban metropolis is beyond dispute. What is under question is the manner in which the drive is being conducted; the fate and rehabilitation of affected citizens; protection of heritage sites; and whether other vested interests are involved in the gentrification of Karachi.

Join The Second Floor for a civilized discourse addressing these issues with leading experts on the subject. It is also their great pleasure to announce that Mr. Wasim Akhtar, the honourable Mayor of Karachi will also be joining the panel.
