On Sunday, October 14, 2012, the residents of Karachi’s Defence & Clifton, and administrators and doctors of Jinnah Hospital, inspired by the 14 year girl from Swat, Malala Yousufzai, organized a ‘Yeh Des Humara Hai’ Rally at Do Talwar, Clifton.
It was totally a civilian affair, not backed by any political party. Participants in the rally included members of Defence Society Residents Association (DSRA) and Office Bearers of the federation of Association of Defence Residents (ADR).
Citizens from every walk of life and belonging to every faith and religion made it truly representative of whole of Pakistan’s civil society. Most of the participants were either holding placards condemning the brutal and cowardly attack on Malala, or announcing their resolve to reclaim Quaid-i-Azam’s enlightened and progressive Pakistan back from the dark forces of extremism & terrorism. Others were proudly waving the Pakistani flags.
Throughout the rally, national songs were being played in the background. Most of the motorists slowed down and gestured their support for the cause. A few drivers parked their cars and joined the rally. Malala has truly woken up the nation from its slumber and for the first time, the so-called ‘Silent Majority’ is no more frightened to stand up and speak up against backwardness and regression which has been slowing destroying our national fabric.
The rally started at 10am and ended with the playing of the national anthem at 12 noon. The rally remained totally peaceful and civilized. Organizers have announced that similar rallies will be held every Sunday till they achieve their goal of gaining back Jinnah’s Pakistan.
The next “Yeh Des Humara Hai’ rally will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 4pm at the Do Talwar Roundabout, Clifton. All DHA/Clifton residents as well as other concerned Pakistanis are invited to participate in large numbers.
